The rights of an individual to use the Oscoda County Library should not be abridged or denied. The purpose of the Library's Guidelines for Patron Behavior is to protect the rights of library patrons to use the library materials and services, to protect the rights of staff members to conduct library business without interference, and to preserve library materials and facilities. The libray is open to all withthe understanding that an atmosphere conducive to research and study is maintained. To guarantee these rights for all persons no library patron shall engage in behavior prohibitied by the following rules:

No person shall:

  1. Make solicitaitons for any reason.

  2. Eat in the library except in designated areas.

  3. Willfully annoy another person.

  4. Damage or deface public property.

  5. Improperly remove library materials or equipment.

  6. Engage in loud or boisterous conduct.

  7. Be in a state of intoxication in a manner that causes a disturbance.

  8. Utter profane, obscene, or injurious language directed at another person.

  9. Enter or remain in the library without wearing a shirt or shoes.

  10. Interfere with other library patrons use of the facilities through extrememly poor personal hygiene.

  11. Remain in the building after its regular closed hours.

  12. Smoke in the library or on library grounds.

  13. Except for service animals, patrons shall not bring pets or animals into the libray.

  14. Patrons shall not bring bicycles into the library building. Roller skates, roller blades, and skateboards may not be work or used in the library.

  15. Patrons shall be responsible for any of their fees or other charges in accordance with the library's standard schedules. Failure to pay these fees may result in the suspension of borrowing privileges.

Any violation of these rules and procedures may result in suspension or removal of library privileges or in legal action. Users violating the rules of conduct will be subject to the following:

  1. Any individual violating the Library's Guidelines for Patron Behavior will be asked to cease such behavior or to leave the library.

  2. If any individual refuses to comply, the library director or Oscoda County Sheriff's Department may be called to the situation.

  3. Information about each incident will be kept by the library. Patron name, address and phone number may be requested. This confidential information may be used in any decision to restrict the individuals' future use of the library.
